"Money can't make you happy...
...but not having money can definitely make you unhappy."
~ Mike's Mom
Meet Mike
To his core, Nurbel's founder believes in balance. While spending the last 15 years developing software products serving the investing industry at large, Mike has worked as a professional jazz saxophonist and educator, started an indie-jazz record label, founded a remote long-term real estate company with his dad, run multiple marathons and half-ironman triathlons, and is currently creating memories in the foothills outside Los Angeles, CA alongside his wife, 2 young boys, and shepherd husky Brecker.
The first decade of Mike's career was spent at Morningstar, cutting his teeth as a Product Manager building investing apps and web tools for financial institutions, advisors and individuals. After a stint with a botique consulting firm working with Disney to build out what became Disney+, Mike returned to his investing roots, working with one of the world's largest asset managers to custom in-house software for sophisticated investment professionals and leads a product platform that algorithmically runs over $300B in assets.
Mike graduated from Northwestern university not just once, but twice, contributing handsomely to their endowment while earning his undergraduate degree in Economics and Jazz Studies, then later going back to the Kellogg School of Management for his MBA. The educational investment provided a sturdy foundation of knowledge and a network of lifelong friends that continues to pay dividends.
Mike might run into you while training for his next half marathon, playing odd-meter jazz tunes in a half-empty a dive bar, hiking the trails surrounding Los Angeles with his crew, trying to keep up on the soccer field, honing his table tennis skills, or enjoying a picnic over classical music in the nosebleed cheap seats at the Hollywood Bowl.
